    Towards a Smarter organization for a Self-servicing Society

    Traditional social organizations such as those for the management of healthcare are the result of designs that matched well with an operational context considerably different from the one we are experiencing today. The new context reveals all the fragility of our societies. In this paper, a platform is introduced by combining social-oriented communities and complex-event processing concepts: SELFSERV.     A framework for trustworthiness assessment based on fidelity in cyber and physical domains

    We introduce a method for the assessment of trust for n-open systems based on a measurement of fidelity and present a prototypical implementation of a complaint architecture. We construct a MAPE loop which monitors the compliance between corresponding figures of interest in cyber- and physical domains; derive measures of the system's trustworthiness; and use them to plan and execute actions aiming at guaranteeing system safety and resilience.     On Resilient Behaviors in Computational Systems and Environments

    The present article introduces a reference framework for discussing resilience of computational systems. Rather than a property that may or may not be exhibited by a system, resilience is interpreted here as the emerging result of a dynamic process. Said process represents the dynamic interplay between the behaviors exercised by a system and those of the environment it is set to operate in. As a result of this interpretation, coherent definitions of several aspects of resilience can be derived and proposed, including elasticity, change tolerance, and antifragility. Definitions are also provided for measures of the risk of unresilience as well as for the optimal match of a given resilient design with respect to the current environmental conditions.     A model for trustworthy orchestration in the internet of things

    Embedded systems such as Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) are typically designed as a network of multiple interacting elements with physical input (or sensors) and output (or actuators). One aspect of interest of open systems is fidelity, or the compliance between physical figures of interest and their internal representation. High fidelity is defined as a stable mapping between actions in the physical domain and intended or expected values in the system domain and deviations from fidelity are quantifiable over time by some appropriate informative variable. In this paper, we provide a model for designing such systems based on a framework for trustworthiness monitoring and we provide a Jason implementation to evaluate the feasibility of our approach. In particular, we build a bridge between a standard publish/subscribe framework for CPS called MQTT and Jason to enable automatic reasoning about trustworthines

    Fractally-organized Connectionist Networks: Conjectures and Preliminary Results

    A strict interpretation of connectionism mandates complex networks of simple components. The question here is, is this simplicity to be interpreted in absolute terms? I conjecture that absolute simplicity might not be an essential attribute of connectionism, and that it may be effectively exchanged with a requirement for relative simplicity, namely simplicity with respect to the current organizational level. In this paper I provide some elements to the analysis of the above question. In particular I conjecture that fractally organized connectionist networks may provide a convenient means to achive what Leibniz calls an "art of complication", namely an effective way to encapsulate complexity and practically extend the applicability of connectionism to domains such as sociotechnical system modeling and design.     High-order Discontinuous Galerkin Solutions of Internal Low-mach Number Turbulent Flows☆

    Abstract In this work we apply the high-order Discontinuous Galerkin (DG) finite element method to internal low-Mach number turbulent flows. The method here presented is designed to improve the performance of the solution in the incompressible limit using an implicit scheme for the temporal integration of the compressible Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) equations. The per- formance of the scheme is demonstrated by solving a well-known test-case consisting of an abrupt axisymmetric expansion using various degrees of polynomial approximation. Computations with k–ω model are performed to assess the modelling capabilities, with high-order accurate DG discretizations of the RANS equations, in presence of non-equilibrium flow conditions

    Raising awareness of non-hodgkin lymphoma in HIV-infected adolescents: Report of 2 cases in the HAART era

    Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) chronically infected patients are at increased risk of developing non-Hodgkin lymphoma compared with the general population. Highly active antiretroviral therapy has had a dramatic effect on the natural history of HIV infection, reducing the incidence of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome-related non-Hodgkin lymphoma and improving overall survival. However, problems related to adherence to treatment, frequently experienced during adolescence, may increase the risk of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome-related cancers. Optimizing highly active antiretroviral therapy and monitoring noncompliant patients with persisting HIV replication should be considered by physicians who take care of these patients. We herein report 2 cases of relapsed/progressive Burkitt lymphoma in HIV vertically infected adolescents
